Popliteal vein is superficial to the artery

The vein-artery relationship flips between the thigh and popliteal fossa. Forgetting this leads to compression errors and missed DVT.

In the popliteal fossa: vein is superficial (anterior) to the artery. This is the opposite of the thigh arrangement. Remember "VAIN" — Vein is Anterior In the popliteal fossa. Compression should collapse the vein without compressing the artery.
